Bird identification can be surprising and fun! Most of the time we see birds whistling by so fast that we have no idea of what just went by. Try taking a photo with your zoom lens camera and getting a good look. Then come to our website to help identify what you have seen. Or go quietly sit down by the lake. This morning we spotted a beautiful Great Blue Heron but couldn’t get the camera out fast enough. We have such a great opportunity to live where nature abounds. I hope this page encourages everyone to stop, relax and breath in the beauty around us!

It’s difficult to get high quality photos of birds when they are so far away and there is a need to zoom in and shoot quickly. Purchasing an inexpensive high optical zoom camera may be the best way to go.

FUN STORY! “I was out at Bayview on Tuesday night working on my watering system for my poor trees. As I was enjoying the calm evening I was attacked by a sound so close to me that it caused my heart to stored up. Sounded like a train immediately next to my ear. After looking around quickly I noticed a bird climbing and cutting and after a while or dive and made this sound! A crazy zooming sound at the end of its dive. Then it would climb, dive and repeat. I noticed some markings and realized I had seen it before in pictures. It is a night hawk!!” - Jerry Stewart More about Nighthawks this.
